Music Phreek DJ & Lighting Recaps Whitney and Dustin’s Pala Mesa Wedding

By, May 24, 2012

Music Phreek DJ & Lighting has always been about the clients’ needs and wants. No ideas or suggestions are too far fetched.  During a couple’s wedding, they’re relying on me to take them on a musical journey and trust that I’ll make every effort to ensure their music is spot on through each part of the day.

My music library is extensive, encompassing a vast array of genres, and everything is “radio friendly” so no music is compromised. All of my sound and lighting equipment is top notch and my pricing structure can accommodate most budgets. I’m inspired by each and every wedding I do because they’re all unique, just like my set list must be. I put a lot into making sure that every detail of each event is mapped out with the best music selections to fit my client’s style and personalities.

My favorite part about working with Whitney and Dustin was their attention to details. All three of us meticulously selected just the right music from their ceremony and cocktail hour music to the dance songs that kept everyone on their feet all night long!

Upon meeting with Whitney and Dustin for the first time, they expressed to me how important the lighting and music would be for their wedding. Colors would be imperative to make sure that the mood was set for lively and romantic evening of celebration. We were able to use battery powered LED uplights in places where wired ones just wouldn’t be feasible. The waterfall that was behind their sweetheart table was an ideal spot for some plum purple to accent them in this amazing moment!

Pala Mesa Resort is a great canvas for lighting because it’s all white,  so our uplights illuminated the entire tent, even while the sun was still up! The look we wanted for Whitney and Dustin was elegance during dinner, so we started off with a light lavendar color.

As the night progressed, we changed the uplights in the tent to a plum purple to give the venue a party atmosphere. It lent itself well from the time Whitney and Dustin cut their wedding cake through the open dancing.

As a DJ, it’s always nice to have the guests come up to show you their appreciation. It makes the job that much more fulfilling!

Dance, dance and more dance!! There were so many people on the dance floor, that some guests were forced to just dance by their tables. Whitney and Dustin gave me an extensive music list of what they and their guests liked but allowed me to have the creative freedom to mix the music in my own style…”DJ Phreek” style, including top 40, hip hop, club hits and my own mash-ups.

My favorite part of working in the wedding industry has to be the many wonderful people who’ve allowed me to be a part of their most special day! As the entertainment, you have a responsibility to make sure that not only the guests but the bride and groom are on cloud nine the entire course of their event. Music can evoke so many emotions and being a DJ, I get to set the tone by selecting just the right combinations of songs.

A Wedding at The Crosby with Classy Event Group

By, May 11, 2012

We are a San Diego DJ and Photo Booth Rental company, and have been a staple in Southern California for over a decade. We pride ourselves on blending energetic enthusiasm with extreme professionalism. More than anything else, we are innovators. The trends and styles will come and go, but we always aim to be two steps ahead for whatever is coming next.

At Dana and Ryan’s recent wedding at The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe, we were honored to provide DJ, lighting and photo booth services for the awesome couple!

Thanks to the nearly-invisible wireless sound system controlled by our DJ, every guest was able to clearly hear the officiant’s readings, as well as Dana and Ryan’s vows.

We like to use strategically-placed LED uplights with covers. They add a nice color accent to the room, as well as more dimension in photographs taken later in the evening. These lights are cool to the touch and energy efficient, and can reproduce thousands of color options to match the event colors just right.

Always a classic! We designed and constructed our own custom-built photo booths (available in white and black with unlimited curtain color options) to perfectly fit the high-end look of any wedding. As photographers know, the quality of light is one of the most important factors in getting pleasing results in the photographs. Our 6 square foot soft box and studio strobe make photos like this look amazing – way better than you’d ever expect from a photo booth! Every session is concluded with the printing of 2 premium quality photo strips about 8 seconds after guests exit the booth, which they can take with them as keepsakes of the event.

From the grand introductions to the last dance, our DJs will work with you to define not only what events you want to take place, but also “how” you want them done.

Tim Altbaum Productions: Wedding DJ, Live Entertainment, Lighting and Decor!

By, April 04, 2012

Your wedding day is like a well produced soundtrack — with a beginning that draws guests in, an ending that sums up the emotions and energy of your day, and throughout there will be dips and turns and twists. As a musical guide, Tim Altbaum Productions (TAP) works with you every step of the way, helping create the soundtrack to your perfect wedding.

We believe that being a good emcee means knowing when to speak up, and when to let the music speak for itself. A great wedding DJ combines musical acumen with microphone presence, while understanding his role behind the scenes. Where good DJs go bad is when they think they are more important than the bride and groom, and that a big personality means better entertainment value. TAP is a leader and trendsetter in the wedding industry because we blend the best aspects of the club with the most important role of a wedding DJ, which is leading your guests through the formal events of the day.

Club DJs speak through their music, seamlessly mixing beats, incorporating mash-ups, and reading the energy in the room and reacting accordingly. Traditional wedding DJs tend to appeal to the masses, young and old, touching on a variety of genres and giving everyone a chance to dance. We do both – we cover the bases, and then some!

Music selection tends to be one of the more difficult challenges our clients face during the planning process. To put your finger on the music you love, and also have it be appropriate for a wedding is where the challenge presents itself. We assist our clients by reviewing sample timelines and song lists, suggesting artists and genres that may fit with their current musical tastes, and providing opportunities to listen to our most recent mixes through our website and public events. We are the original Pandora. Our job is to take what’s in our client’s heads and translate it into a four or five hour event.

For some of our clients, a combination of DJ services and live entertainment is the perfect balance. We offer everything from solo guitarists to full bands, and everything in between. When we think of live music at a wedding, our minds usually conjure up the classic image of a string quartet playing Beethoven in a private garden. But the truth is that any live element can enhance a wedding.

National research shows that brides and grooms are putting more of an importance on entertainment at their wedding. The average wedding budget devotes around 10% to entertainment, and this trend is growing. Lighting and decor has also become an integral part of the overall experience. Recognizing the demand, TAP dove in head first almost ten years ago and added a myriad of lighting and decor services to our repertoire. For this reason, TAP clients invest an average of 15% of their overall budget with us.

At Chris and Danielle’s wedding, pictured below, we provided quite a few services to create the overall look and feel of their big day. It started with the market lighting over their ceremony lawn, which later became an enchanted space for their guests to relax and enjoy the sounds of the ocean.

To take it up a notch, we illuminated the palm trees, all the way up their 30 foot trunks! We also wanted to bring a little romance to their reception room, so we added wall-to-wall draping using a sheer material that we illuminated to warm up the space.

The music tied everything together. From traditional Horas to your favorite sing-a-long songs, we played the full range you can expect at a well-rounded wedding reception.

We are the pioneers of DJ Live! services, which is the combination of a live musician (or musicians) with a DJ mixing recorded music. For example, DJ with sax, DJ with conga drum, or many other combinations will give your guests something they’ve probably never seen or heard before, and certainly haven’t seen at a wedding.

Don’t be afraid to combine different musicians, a DJ, and interesting lighting effects to achieve the overall feel of your wedding day. That’s what TAP is all about, creating an experience that will knock the socks off your guests. From lighting to decor, DJs to live entertainment, we help make memories that will last a lifetime.
