Jennie Parker's love for sweets began before she could ever reach the kitchen counter top, as a little girl who loved baking with her Mom and Nana. Eventually she graduated to her very own “Easy Bake” oven. Ever since childhood, Jennie has always tucked sweets into her purse to share with friends. She is a true “chocoholic”. “Life is short, eat chocolate", is her personal mantra.
A 1999 graduate of U.C. Santa Cruz (B.A., Art History), Jennie Parker was formally trained in baking and pastry at San Diego Culinary Institute, where she studied with French Pastry Chef, Yves Fournier. (To learn more about Chef Yves or to take private classes please visit www.pastriesathome.com). Jennie Parker continued her education with baking classes at CIA Greystone located in gorgeous Napa Valley, and at The Notter School in Orlando, which specializes in chocolate work, primarily bon bons and showpieces.
Right out of culinary school, Jennie started baking for a five star French restaurant, then boarded a cruise ship that circled the Hawaiian Islands to focus on pastry production. Once back in San Diego, she worked for a chain of cafes as head pastry chef, joined the pastry team at the Lodge At Torrey Pines, started her own pastry side business at the La Jolla Farmer’s Market & Catering. Currently Jennie Parker does a combination of pastry consulting, event sales, and catering for her own company, “Pop Culture Desserts”. She works with a variety of event planners and catering companies to create memorable events incorporating dessert tables and wedding cakes. Jennie loves to work directly with the customer as they share great ideas and keep the process of creating desserts fun, fresh, and creative.
