Let it Flow | Rockin’ the Long Bridal Veil

By, February 18, 2016

Debating whether to rock a long veil on your wedding day? For modern brides, a veil is now an optional embellishment, and a matter of personal preference. However, the wearing of a veil is a longstanding bridal custom, dating back to the Ancient Greeks and Romans. After seeing the photos below, you may be inspired to honor this practice, or to put your own spin on it.

As photographers, we are in favor of brides keeping this tradition strong! Veils are accessories that we can play with, and use to take images to new heights. The daintiness and sheerness of veils add texture to wedding photos, and help us to create dramatic and romantic compositions.

Out of the many different veil lengths available, today we are spotlighting chapel and cathedral veils. A chapel veil reaches the ground, while a cathedral veil extends even further, and spreads out beautifully behind the bride. The dramatic length of these particular veils allows us to create striking portraits that would otherwise not have the same effect. What bride wouldn’t want to channel her inner model and totally rock a “veil in the wind” shot?

Check out our collection of long veil portraits and prepare to be “blown away” ;)

Love in Black and White | Valentine’s Day Spotlight

By, February 15, 2016

Although sweet pinks and fiery reds are traditionally symbolic of Valentine’s Day, love can also be shown with the absence of color. Photos without color offer a timeless, understated and honest feel, enabling you to concentrate on the moment itself. We typically reserve a black & white treatment for particularly dramatic photos, where the starkness adds to the emotional impact.

In honor of yesterday’s Valentine’s Day holiday, we are featuring a collection of our favorite classic black & white wedding photos. Enjoy!

Love 101 | Scripps Seaside Forum Wedding

By, March 04, 2015

Some people meet their soulmates in college, while others find each other later in life. Fortunately for Jacqueline and Ross, they both attended UCSD at the same time. With fate on their side, these two crossed paths, and began their life together.

When it came time to plan the wedding, this sweet couple decided to wed in the city where love blossomed – La Jolla.  Their venue of choice was Scripps Seaside Forum, which is fitting because it is an extension of UCSD’s campus. Let us take you on a journey throughout their day with the images we captured!

The couple tied the knot at Mary Star of the Sea, a Catholic church situated in the heart of La Jolla.

Following the ceremony, guests traveled down the road to Scripps Seaside Forum for the outdoor cocktail hour. To take advantage of the fabulous weather, we photographed portraits on the beach, and all around the property. It’s hard to tell that this wedding took place in January – it was sunny and in the seventies!

After cocktail hour, the party moved to the Scripps auditorium, where Jacqueline and Ross made their first appearance as husband and wife. To the delight of family and friends, the couple went straight into a spirited first dance. Not long after, guests were feasting on a scrumptious sit-down dinner, enjoying sentimental speeches, and being entertained by the father-daughter and mother-son dances.

As the sun set, the energy picked up. Everyone was out on the dance floor, showing off their skills. The most memorable move was Ross’s garter retrieval near the end of the night! ;)
