Why We Tailor Your Engagement Shoot

We know from years of photography experience that no two couples are exactly alike. Therefore, there is no one-size-fits-all photo session. We don't have a pre-made template of what a shoot should be and expect you to fall in line. Instead, we find out about you as a couple and adjust the shoot accordingly. For example, let's say your favorite activity is to curl up at home and read books together. The last thing we will do is put you on water skis and have a wild water adventure! Or, let's say you are into hiking and extreme sports. If this is the case, we will get you outside as fast as possible, and capture you in your element. We would not keep you cooped up indoors because we want to capture your authentic selves. When booking your engagement photography shoot, be sure to tell us about yourselves. For example, let us know your favorite locations, a bit about your personality, and things to do as a couple. This way, we can begin planning your engagement shoot accordingly.

When To Have Your Engagement Photography Shoot

It is a good idea to reach out to our photography studio immediately after your engagement, or as soon as possible. The reason is that photo shoot dates book quickly, and it's helpful to reserve a date on our calendar. The nice thing about our studio is that we have a number of engagement shoot photographers within our core team. This means that we will have more availability and flexibility than any other studio. We understand that you are likely both busy with wedding preparations, work, or just normal life. To make things easier, we are typically able to photograph your engagement shoot after work, or towards the end of the workday. This ensures that you have ideal lighting conditions while also being conducive to your schedules. We will work together to choose a location that is convenient, so you have plenty of time to arrive at your shoot relaxed and ready to be photographed.

Where To Hold Your Shoot

Most of our engagement shoots are photographed right here in San Diego. If you are having a destination wedding, or you live in another city, we will work together to make other arrangements. We like to hold your photo shoot in a location you enjoy as a couple, or one that holds fond memories. For example, the site of your first date, or the neighborhood park where you walk your dog. By including a location that has extra meaning , you will look back even more fondly on your photos. We also have our favorite spots around town, such as Seaport Village, Balboa Park, Old Town, and parts of Downtown / Gaslamp Quarter. If you are unsure about where to have your engagement session, be sure to ask us for recommendations.

What Will The Shoot Be Like?

Essentially, we will capture you acting naturally and having a great time together. Your photographer will guide you throughout the entire shoot in a way that is unobtrusive and helpful, making sure that you look great for the camera. Based on your chosen location, we will have a few different backdrops in mind. We look for surrounding areas that have interesting textures, scenic views, and pops of color. By placing you in different environments like this, you will have a nice variety in your photos. Even if you are nervous starting out, you'll likely find that once you start interacting with your photographer, you will quickly become comfortable. This is because in addition to being amazing shooters, all of our hand-picked photographers are very fun and personable :) You should find yourselves at ease and in the moment, as if you were on a date together. It is an experience you will both remember for a long time!
