What a Mighty Good Man | Father’s Day

By, June 19, 2016

It’s Father’s Day! To mark the occasion, we want to say thanks to Dads everywhere :)

In addition to being honored today, many fathers also play a big part during the wedding day. Whether it’s tearfully walking his daughter down the aisle, or showing off some funky moves during parent dances, Dad has definitely earned his moment in the sun.

To celebrate the unconditional love Dads provide, we’ve gathered a few of our favorite photos of “Dads being Dads” on the big day. Enjoy!

One special way to honor Dad on the wedding day is with a First Look. By setting aside a little quiet pre-ceremony time together, you can show Dad how important he is to you. For example, at Allison and Justin’s wedding at Condor’s Nest Ranch, we captured Allison’s father’s reaction to seeing her for the first time (below).

During Anjali and Jay’s wedding at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego (below), guests surprised Jay’s father with an impromptu outdoor dance. As Jay looked on, we were able to quickly react, and grabbed this fun crowd scene.

We love capturing unguarded expressions of joy and emotion. For example, at Allison and Adam’s ceremony at La Valencia (below), Allison’s father shared his excitement with a huge grin. These moments, endearing and genuine, always leave a soft spot in our hearts.

If couples have little ones, we love finding fun and creative ways to include these “mini me’s” into the day’s photos. At Shara and Giovanni’s wedding at Grand Tradition, Giovanni’s son was dressed just as sharp as Dad, and rocked these adorable baby moccasins (below).

During Morvarid and Sahand’s reception at the Metropol Banquet (below), Morvarid and her father entertained guests with a lighthearted, traditional dance, which capped off the night’s activities.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! | Bridesmaid Inspiration

By, May 03, 2016

Ladies, let’s be honest – the wedding day is a great excuse to hang out with your BFFs. With champagne flowing, music playing, and your girls decked out in their finest, there is nothing left to do but celebrate. It’s a perfect occasion to let loose, share a laugh, and enjoy the results of your planning.

As a bonus, there’s also that whole “getting married” thing :) Right now, though, it’s all about the ladies.

On the wedding day, we suggest starting the photography coverage early, before you change into your wedding dress. It’s fun to have images captured while you are relaxing with your bridal party, with the final touches of make-up being applied. This is a time for us to get creative, shoot details and candids, and capture the excitement in the room. Whether your crew is sophisticated, boisterous, or all-out silly, we’ll be there to create unforgettable images.

We hope you enjoy these recent bride and bridesmaid inspiration photos :)

While getting ready, Courtney’s bridesmaids surprised her with impromptu pillow fight (below), and we captured her priceless reaction.

Before getting dressed up, Jaclyn and her ladies couldn’t resist a little taste of Del Taco (below). Still in her pre-bridal wardrobe, Jaclyn made sure to not get any hot sauce on her dress for her wedding day at Longshadow Ranch Vineyard and Winery.

During Brooke and Matt’s wedding at Rancho Valencia, we noticed an empty golf cart near Brooke’s room, and had the ladies hop in for a fun cruise around the venue (below). We are constantly keeping an eye out for unique photo opportunities, and ways to to transform everyday items into creative props.

Another great benefit to having your ladies helping out before the ceremony are fun moments like the one above, taken during Katie and Gene’s wedding at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club. As Katie stepped into her dress, we had her bridesmaids hold up a mirror for a grand reveal. We love the ecstatic, candid smiles of Katie and her girls, and the genuine reactions all around.

Let guests know who your bridesmaids are!  At Mariam and Farhad’s Wedding at Maderas Golf Club, Mariam’s bridesmaids rocked yellow sunglasses, which were gifted to them to match their wedding attire (below). By gifting your ladies with colorful robes or matching glasses, your squad will rule the day in style.

For their grand entrance during Shannan and Mathias’ wedding at Beverly Mansion (above left), the bridesmaids had a little surprise up their sleeves. Serenading the crowd with air guitar skills, the ladies brought out their inner rock stars, and kicked off the party in high gear.

Let There Be Cake! | Cake Topper Inspiration

By, April 26, 2016

At the wedding, even the smallest details can make a big impression. One unexpected way to showcase your personality as a couple is the cake topper. This fun expression of love can be as outrageous, understated, or glamorous as you want it to be.

Although its origins are shrouded in mystery, legend says the cake topper began over 100 years ago. Engaged to be married, a baker’s daughter came to her father seeking a unique symbol of love for her groom. After multiple attempts, and long consideration, the baker presented the bride-to-be with two figurines atop a cake. This representation of the wedding couple became instantly popular, and still holds to this day.

The ritual of the cake topper has been updated over time, with modern twists. We’ve seen ornate hand-carved designs, customized figurines, sophisticated paper cutouts, and much more. We hope you enjoy these recent cake topper inspiration photos below.

At Lauren and Stephen’s wedding at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront (see below), they cheered on their favorite sports teams with personalized hockey and soccer cake toppers!

Cake toppers can be a fun way to get festive and celebrate your ancestry. This Day of the Dead cake from the wedding of Danielle and Michael (below left) and figurines from Jennifer and David (below right) added a pop of color to the day’s activities.

For April and Vernon’s wedding (below), the couple had an artist capture them in their wedding day attire, depicted as paper cutouts. This resulted in a timeless keepsake that can be enjoyed for many years to come.

If figurines aren’t your style, you can switch things up with a dash of fresh flowers. These two cakes by Sweet Cheeks Baking (see below) added elegance and tropical flair to understated white frosting bases.

Another idea is to incorporate streamed banners, adding a whimsical, handmade touch to the dessert table.

No matter how you top it, a personalized wedding cake topper is a fun way to welcome guests to your reception. We leave you with this sexy cake topper from Sisanie and Michael’s wedding at the Legendary Park Plaza Hotel, which really says it all :)
