Kate & Eric | Bali Hai Wedding

By, December 19, 2016

Kate and Eric reside in Washington D.C., and absolutely love the city of San Diego. They have visited multiple times, and have discussed moving here in the future. So it was only fitting that their destination wedding was held in ‘America’s Finest City’.

For the wedding venue, Kate and Eric chose the picturesque Bali Hai Restaurant, an enchanting Polynesian eatery. With its tropical elements, and sweeping views of San Diego’s harbor, this location made for a very vibrant day! Grab a Mai Tai and enjoy our selection of images :)

Kate and Eric got ready at Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn, a beachy resort within walking distance of the Bali Hai.

During the “getting ready” portion, we captured stylized solo portraits of Eric and Kate.

We also made sure to capture fun details, such as Kate’s colorful kicks.

We love finding intriguing angles to capture getting ready shots.

To get this clean shot of Eric, we used a special lens to bring extra attention to him.

To achieve this high-angle shot, we mounted our camera on a tripod, and used a wide-angle lens.

For this romantic photo, we asked guests to shower the newlyweds with flower petals. Everyone was happy to take part!

Romantic wedding photo on a pier

To achieve candid photos, like this one, we initially posed Kate and Eric in a specific way. Then we let their personalities take over :)

In order to highlight the beautiful location, we made use of a wide-angle shot. The pier, and its leading lines, helped draw focus to this dynamic duo!

Wedding love in San Diego harbor

After the ceremony, there was scheduled time for us to photograph around the Bali Hai. The time was put to good use, as there are so many great spots!

It’s awesome when time can be blocked out for sunset photos. The quality of light is very pretty (above).

For the macro ring shot above, we placed the rings (by Mark Broumand) on Kate’s mother’s clutch. This brought out their true brilliance.

Pretty in Pastels | Springtime Wedding Inspiration

By, March 21, 2016

Spring is here, and nothing gets us in this seasonal spirit more than pastels. These gentle hues, reminiscent of dip-dyed eggs and blooming flowers, are easy on the eyes and exude a touch of romance. We frequently see pastel colors at springtime weddings, such as sherbet and light blues.

Pastels can be used throughout the entire wedding, including bouquets, bridesmaids dresses, and desserts. This makes the design and décor look classic and timeless, which reflects in the resulting wedding photography. If you’re lucky, the sky will even light up with gorgeous pastel pinks just before sundown :)

Check out our collection of pastel wedding inspiration, and bring on the springtime cheer!

Love 101 | Scripps Seaside Forum Wedding

By, March 04, 2015

Some people meet their soulmates in college, while others find each other later in life. Fortunately for Jacqueline and Ross, they both attended UCSD at the same time. With fate on their side, these two crossed paths, and began their life together.

When it came time to plan the wedding, this sweet couple decided to wed in the city where love blossomed – La Jolla.  Their venue of choice was Scripps Seaside Forum, which is fitting because it is an extension of UCSD’s campus. Let us take you on a journey throughout their day with the images we captured!

The couple tied the knot at Mary Star of the Sea, a Catholic church situated in the heart of La Jolla.

Following the ceremony, guests traveled down the road to Scripps Seaside Forum for the outdoor cocktail hour. To take advantage of the fabulous weather, we photographed portraits on the beach, and all around the property. It’s hard to tell that this wedding took place in January – it was sunny and in the seventies!

After cocktail hour, the party moved to the Scripps auditorium, where Jacqueline and Ross made their first appearance as husband and wife. To the delight of family and friends, the couple went straight into a spirited first dance. Not long after, guests were feasting on a scrumptious sit-down dinner, enjoying sentimental speeches, and being entertained by the father-daughter and mother-son dances.

As the sun set, the energy picked up. Everyone was out on the dance floor, showing off their skills. The most memorable move was Ross’s garter retrieval near the end of the night! ;)
