Waterfront Park is a beautiful locale nestled between San Diego’s vibrant downtown and picturesque harbor. It is also part of the San Diego County Administration Center, an Art Deco-styled building that doubles as a beautiful backdrop. There are themed gardens, civic greens, beautiful fountains, and even a massive playground. Also, because it’s so close to the County building, marriage licenses don’t have to travel very far ;)
Jessica and Nick, who now reside in Seattle, wanted their wedding to be held in Jessica’s home town of San Diego. They chose Waterfront Park because it showcased the beautiful cityscape, and matched their fun-loving personalities. They were even able to bring in food trucks for the reception!
While photographing Jessica and Nick’s wedding, we made sure to take full advantage of the scenery and the vibrant location. We hope you enjoy our selection of images from their big day!

In the photo above, we framed the couple using the leading lines of the playground, and the background skyscrapers. By using shallow depth of field, we were able to draw added focus to the couple.

Jessica and Nick were all about having fun, so we used all of our surroundings as props. This resulted in spontaneous fun photos, like the one below. You will see many more examples throughout their entire wedding!

In the photo below, we actually stepped into the fountain to get a cool angle of this hot couple. We were the only ones with “cold feet” at this wedding :)

A nearby birthday party happened to offer Jessica and Nick some of their remaining pizza (above). It was a definite crowd pleaser, and made for this unforgettable photo!

We are always alert, and ready to capture awesome candid moments. For example, check out the photo above of Jessica’s last-minute tequila shot before the ceremony :)

To surprise the guests, Nick and his officiant rode in on a tandem bicycle. Because we had two photographers, we were able to capture this hilarious moment from a variety of perspectives.

If that wasn’t enough, the rest of the bridal party including Jessica, rode in on surrey bicycles.

Instead of having an elaborate cake, Jessica and Nick decided to put more of their resources towards an open bar for the wedding. They used a lighthearted hashtag as a reminder to their guests.

For centerpieces, each table was decorated with a colorful fishbowl, which contained actual live fish. One lucky guest from each table got to go home with a new buddy! :)

Although most of the day was overcast, the sun came out like a champion right at sunset, which resulted in memorable photos by the harbor. To create a nice clean sunset photo, we used just the right amount of fill light.
