From Utah to a destination beach wedding in San Diego

By, April 26, 2011

Chelsea and Jimmy wanted a beach wedding, which they knew would be impossible in their hometown state of Utah. So they came to sunny San Diego, and we had an absolute blast photographing this fun and energetic couple. Chelsea took a few minutes to reminisce about their big day, so that we could share it with all of our future brides. She even offered a tip when it comes to cutting the cake! Check it out:

I’d have to say there are two moments that I will always cherish from my wedding day. The first moment was as I was standing arm and arm with my dad, waiting for the cue to walk down the aisle. It was bittersweet, and full of so many emotions. I will never forget the feeling when I met eyes with my then soon-to-be husband, Jimmy, as he waited for me at the end of the aisle. My eyes teared up instantly because that was the moment I had waited for my whole life. Being there in beautiful San Diego, surrounded by my closest friends and family, with my dad walking me down the aisle to marry the love of my life… it was perfect.

The second moment was during the reception, and I’m sure it’s a moment many others won’t forget either. During our cake cutting, Jimmy and I had the hardest time getting the cake slice onto the plate. We had cut the cake, and were trying to lift the piece up and onto the plate, but it would not budge. Finally, we had pushed up so hard that the slice of cake went flying through the air. Luckily, it landed on the plate. Note to all future brides: when cutting the cake, make sure the server you are using is under the CAKE and not under the cardboard. Unless of course, you want to add more excitement to your wedding like we did!

We planned our wedding within five months, and from a different state! So we knew right away that we didn’t want an elaborate, fancy wedding, and really wanted to focus on the small, personal touches instead. Our guests traveled from thousands of miles away, and we wanted it to be a lasting experience for everyone. We wanted the beautiful San Diego coast to play a big part in the vibe and feel of our wedding. Through the setting of our venue, the bright, tropical florals, and the most picturesque photo ops, I think we accomplished just that.

I think it goes without saying that the talent of True Photography tops all other photographers in the industry. As soon as I started looking at pictures on their website from previous weddings, I was amazed, and knew I wanted pictures like that of my own to look back at. What really impressed me, and made True Photography stand far above the rest, was their philosophy. They were so willing to work with us to customize a package specifically for us and what we wanted. Every step of the way, from before the contract was signed, to the wedding planning process, to the wedding day itself and the weeks following our big day, True Photography has felt like family. They are all so down to earth, easy to work with, and truly care about their clients. I can honestly say that our wedding would not have been the same without True Photography!

Romantic Wedding Celebration at the Seaside Forum

By, April 19, 2011

We caught up with Emily to recap her wedding to Paul at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in downtown San Diego. They followed  up the ceremony with a contemporary reception at the Scripps Forum. Check out a few of the images we captured of the gorgeous couple, and see what Emily had to say about their big day:

Meghan of True Photography: Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions about your wedding for our blog! I’m interested to know what was most important to you and Paul when planning your wedding?

Emily (Bride): We didn’t want our wedding to feel “typical” or manufactured. We wanted the focus to remain on marriage, the whole purpose of the day, and not to get lost on all the things that become insignificant once the event is over, like party favors and material things.

Meghan of True Photography: If you had to choose, what would you say was your most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Emily (Bride): Being at the altar. Ironically, that was when were all alone, just the two of us, up there with the priest. It was really surreal and special. All the hand squeezes and sideways glances that no one else could see or know about. That is special and still stands out to me.

Meghan of True Photography: You were such a beautiful bride and we absolutely loved photographing you and Paul. Can you tell us what your experience was like working with True Photography?

Emily (Bride): True Photography was great. If I could describe the experience I would say “easy and efficient”. We wanted to be able to enjoy a little bit of the cocktail hour with our guests, and Mike made that happen, without sacrificing photos we wanted. The pictures truly captured the essence of the event.
