Soft and Feminine Wedding Hair and Makeup by Amy Huynh Makeup Artistry

By, July 30, 2012

I am a freelance hair and makeup artist with a focus on bridal beauty, fashion, and commercial artistry. I work on location with many of my brides, or out of my home studio in Orange County. I truly believe that everyone is beautiful in different ways, and I use makeup to enhance that beauty.

I recently had the honor to work with a wonderful bride, Patricia, and her seven bridesmaids! Patricia and Daniel tied the knot at Sacred Heart Church in Coronado, followed by a fun celebration at the Ultimate Skybox in downtown San Diego. The feel of the wedding was refined and elegant, with a bold pop of pink!

To complement the feminine feel we were after, I gave Patricia a very soft and natural makeup look.

I met Patricia one month prior to her wedding day. She came to my studio for her makeup and hair trial. We tried three different looks and decided to have her hair down and on one side for the wedding day.

Patricia is one of the funniest brides I have ever met. She is super sweet and so easy to work with.  I love when a bride can take a deep breath and be herself. It was such a pleasure assisting Patricia and her bridesmaids with makeup and hair on her special day.

This happy couple was surrounded by close friends and family at their Ultimate Skybox reception. Patricia’s beautiful and natural look lasted all night long, and even outlasted a dress change and lots of dancing!

Outdoor Wedding on the Cliffs of Torrey Pines State Reserve

By, June 10, 2011

Maria and Xerxes envisioned a quaint wedding with their close friends and family.  They found a location for their ceremony that was meaningful to them and had an awesome view for their guests! We had an incredible time photographing this wedding because it was unique, had a mellow vibe and you could feel the love surrounding these two.

The inventive couple took full advantage of their outdoor setting. Instead of hanging Maria’s dress in a hotel room, her dress draped down from a tree branch along the trail. The bride and groom even had a makeshift dressing room set up outside, with a mirror propped up along the path, a table, and a couple of cool red velvet chairs for them to relax in before the ceremony began.

Scroll down below to read what Maria had to say about her perfect wedding, and check out some of the pictures that tell the story of their day!

We wanted our wedding to be really laid back, simple but elegant. We didn’t really have a theme; we just went with things that reflected us the most as a couple.  Torrey Pines State Reserve was the first hiking trail we took when we first started dating and since we love hiking, it was perfect to have our ceremony there.

The most memorable moment for us would have to be the whole day. It really meant a lot to have all of our loved ones and close friends share our special day.  Most of them flew just to witness our vows.  We feel fortunate that we still have both set of parents on our side and as well as his 81 year old grandma who means a lot to him.

We loved every picture that TRUE has taken.  But our most favorite and the one that we’ll most likely be getting a canvas on will be the one of us sitting on the stairs.

Michael was very laid back and great to work with. We are very happy with the photos and I will definitely recommend TRUE to any bride looking for great photographers!

A Modern Style Beach Wedding with a Cool, Clean Feel

By, June 07, 2011

For engaged couples looking for a beach side wedding venue, the Scripps Seaside Forum has proven itself again as an incredible spot to tie the knot. To Danielle and Chris, it was important to create a day that was meaningful and romantic. After listening to their personalized vows, watching the ocean wind blow the sheer draping on the Chuppah, and observing their love for each other on the dance floor, it was clear that romance was achieved!

We spoke with Danielle after their amazing celebration, and she filled us in on all the details. Take a look at what the beautiful bride had to say about her wedding, and feel free to let us know what you think!

From an aesthetic perspective, we wanted a style that was chic, clean and modern, but embraced the organic surroundings of the Scripps Seaside Forum.  We wanted our design elements to complement the setting without distracting from it, and to be a bold reflection of our personal styles. Our colors ended up being ivory and grey with highlights of tangerine.

Our flowers were all ivory with the exception of my bouquet and the flowers carried by the flower girls. We kept the flowers clean and bold by using groupings of single flower types rather than mixed bouquets. The bridesmaids and groomsmen dressed in chic grey, and we introduced pops of tangerine in the paper products and my bouquet.

Ahhh, the dress.  I adore that dress and wish I could wear it all the time! I’m not a princessy type but it’s hard to not feel glamorous in a dress like that.  The dress was Vera Wang, and the style is called Diana.  I love the simplicity of the fabric coupled with the architectural complexity of the dress’s construction.  It’s fairly fashion-forward and edgy (tons of asymmetry and rough edges) without losing the classic bridal elements (shape, color, material).  It really fit my style to a T.

Without question, my most memorable moment of the wedding day was exchanging vows with Chris.  We wrote our own vows, and hearing Chris express his love to me in front of our loved ones was the most moving moment of my life.  It was hard for either one of us to hold back tears, and to be honest I don’t really care that I was a sniffling mess.

It’s really tough to pick a favorite photo, but mine is possibly this one.  I love our giddily spontaneous post-ceremony kiss with the backdrop of our friends and family.  Fantastic moment captured!

Working with True Photography was a delightful experience, from the engagement photo shoot all the way through the wedding.  Michael put us completely at ease and captured all the action without feeling remotely obtrusive. The photo shoot portion of the day was really fun – our wedding party loved every minute of it! Everyone at True is so sweet and professional – great at their jobs and wonderful to interact with.  I love looking through all our photos and seeing how many of our friends and family were truly enjoying themselves at our wedding.  We can’t thank the entire team enough for providing us with a priceless set of memories of the most special day of our lives.
