A Multi-Cultural Wedding at the Bahia Hotel | Coordinated by La Dolce Idea

At La Dolce Idea, I am incurably passionate about creating a memorable experience! My job is to help tell everything about you, together with the love of your life.

Recently, I was honored to help Adrienne and Morod plan their wedding from start to finish. The planning starting about one year before their big day. This beautiful couple tied the knot at the Junipero Serra Museum in Presidio Park near Old Town, San Diego. Afterwards, guests joined the newlyweds for a stunning reception at the Bahia Hotel in Mission Bay.

Adrienne and Morod wanted a chic ivory and gold celebration, with accents of burgundy. As I guided the couple through the planning process, Adrienne took part in the selections and decisions along the way.

I love this black and white photo, showing the happy and relaxed couple right after the ceremony. Married and stress-free!

All of the flowers were designed by Laura Paglia with Sweet Ribbon Events, and were crafted to match the color palette. Throughout the venue, there were abundant florals in ivory and gold, with touches of burgundy. Adrienne’s all-ivory bouquet was beautifully decorated with a satin ribbon and a vintage brooch.

The Mission Ballroom at the Bahia Hotel was the perfect setting for the colorful, multicultural reception. Adding to the elegant ambiance were tall centerpieces, crushed iridescent linens, and gold Chiavari chairs by Sweet Ribbon Events.

The Father/Daughter dance was one of the biggest hits at the reception! Adrienne and her father choreographed a 5-minute mix that included a waltz, oldies, rap and even The Twist!

The wedding festivities included cultural traditions reflecting both the bride’s and groom’s families. For example, a Mariachi band played during the cocktail hour at the Junipero Serra Museum, while a henna ceremony was performed at the reception. Afghan dances were also included during the celebration.

I love when brides (or grooms) plan a surprise element for their spouse. In Adrienne’s case, it was the groom’s cake. Morod had expressed the desire to have a groom’s cake at the reception for a long time, and Adrienne always shot down the idea. On the wedding day, right after the cake cutting, I had the groom’s cake brought out to the ballroom. It was a combination of a football field with the Dallas Cowboys logo, and a basketball with the Dallas Mavericks logo. Morod was taken completely off guard, happy and speechless!

Everything went smoothly that night, and it was exactly like Adrienne envisioned — picture perfect! Making my couples happy on their most special day is priceless.

Adrienne and Morod are the perfect example of my ideal couple. They are fun and hip, their celebration was sophisticated and timeless, and they made sure to pay respect to their cultural traditions. Each wedding is different, and I always try to incorporate those little details that make every wedding memorable.

A Wedding at The Lodge at Torrey Pines with Crown Weddings

Throughout the wedding process, there are a lot of decisions to be made, and money to be spent. Our role is to help guide you effortlessly through the whole process, and connect you with vendors to suit your taste and pocketbook. Together, we put together a team of professionals who ensure that your wedding day is one to remember. We make sure that you are looked after, every detail is covered, and everyone is taken care of.

For the recent wedding of Maureen and Jon, we worked with Maureen to create a spectacular event at The Lodge at Torrey Pines.

Maureen really wanted to create a lush, stylish, fresh and vintage inspired wedding.

As part of her bridesmaids gifts, Maureen gave each of the ladies a cute custom wrap to lounge in while getting ready for the big day. What a great gift!

While getting ready at her parents’ beautiful home, the bride was very relaxed on the wedding day. Maureen looked absolutely stunning.

Meanwhile, the guys were also getting prepped for the big day. Really, how many men can tie a bow tie? Luckily, all the groomsmen figured it out with a little help from the instructions manual. We love this photo!

The wedding party and guests headed over to the the gorgeous wedding ceremony, which was held at the Sacred Heart Church in Coronado. Everyone celebrated Mr. and Mrs. Buckley as they walked hand in hand down the aisle!

Following the ceremony, the wedding party made their way to La Jolla to take colorful beach photos. It was a warm and perfect San Diego day!

Being escorted in an Old Town Trolley was such a fun form of transportation to and from the ceremony. The Trolley also brought the bridal party to the beach, and to The Lodge at Torrey Pines.

On the lawn at The Lodge, guests enjoyed appetizers and delicious drinks during the cocktail hour. Maureen and Jon joined the guests after taking photos with the wedding party.

Gorgeous linens from La Tavola and lush florals from Splendid Sentiments made the ballroom at the Lodge feel cozy and inviting!

A planned surprise during the reception is always a highlight at a wedding. Maureen and the father of the bride surprised everyone by doing a hip hop routine in the middle of the father daughter dance, while sporting their Boston Red Sox hats!

The wedding was beautiful, and the couple had such a great time from start to finish, which was so evident in the images!

A Ruffled Wedding Cake by Sweet Cheeks Baking Co.

Heather and Gabe contacted Sweet Cheeks Baking Co in July to create a beautiful wedding cake for their November nuptials at the Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla.

The goal was to design a cake that fit the modern feel of the Scripps Forum, as well as the layered and ruffled look that Heather loves.

Heather and Gabe’s wedding, which was coordinated by Details Defined, had a modern beach feel with pops of pink and deep purple. The cake complemented the aesthetic of the day, and it turned out beautifully!

Because the wedding was held in November, we wanted to offer the guests a cool selection of seasonal flavors. We created a rich chocolate option, as well as a lighter, fruitier choice. Since berries were at their ripest peak, we suggested using a dark berry to offset the lemon brightness they requested. As a result, the cakes could not have been more deliciously paired – all frosted in our Italian Meringue Butter Cream.

The bottom tier was made of our Chocolate Blackout Cake, with Chocolate Butter Cream, and 60% Belgian Chocolate Ganache fillings. The top two tiers featured our Vanilla Bean Sour Cream Cake, with Fresh Blackberry Curd and Lemon Curd fillings.

Heather and Gabe hired Kathy Wright Flowers to create their amazing arrangements. Kathy built up a tremendous, extra large Malmaisson Rose, which became the singular floral topper for the cake. Kathy makes beautiful pieces of art, so we were thrilled to have one of her creations finish off our cake.
