If you are not sure where to hold your engagement photo shoot, may we suggest the beach? Here in San Diego, we have 31 beaches to choose from! This presents an incredible number of waterfront locations, and a wide variety of choices. Whether you live in North County or South Bay, you will find a beach only minutes away. So why hold your San Diego engagement shoot anywhere else?
In fact, many San Diego couples have built their relationship around the beach. Whether meeting at an outdoor barbecue event, or the annual Over The Line tournament, beach romances are everywhere. Even if you happened to meet elsewhere, the beach may be significant in your relationship. For example, the two of you may take the pup for a walk on a dog-friendly beach. Or you may have moonlight picnics that are the highlight of your week. Given the proximity, it's very likely that you have one or more fond memories as a couple that involve the beach in some way.
Your San Diego Beach Engagement Shoot
Couples frequently contact us with a request to photograph their engagement shoot. Sometimes, these couples have a location in mind already. But often, they look to us for suggestions and guidance. One of our go-to recommendations is the beach, and for several reasons. As one example, depending on the beach, there are a variety of different scenes and backgrounds, all within walking distance.
For example, if we are photographing a Mission Beach engagement shoot, we have Belmont Park only steps away. This means that we can photograph not only the ocean as a backdrop, but also an amusement park! This makes for a fun and diverse set of resulting images, with lots of colors and scenery throughout the photo shoot. To achieve this variety, we may spend the first portion on the sand, capturing you on the beach itself. Then, we will walk together to Belmont Park, and photograph some pre-planned and candid images together. This will produce a wide range of photos, with a lot to review when you see your images!
Engagement Photography Budget
Note that you have full control of the length of your beach engagement shoot, which we tailor according to your engagement photography budget. A longer engagement photo session will yield more coverage, and a greater number of photos. This is because we have more time to work with. As such, we can go to a beach that is off the beaten path and more secluded. This is helpful if you want your beach engagement photos to look like your own private paradise.
Also, a longer engagement shoot gives you more flexibility for factors like outfit changes. For example, you may want to start off in stylish outfits for dramatic beach photos. But then, you may want to switch into swimsuits and sandals for playful photos in the waves. If we have a time crunch due to photography budget, this may not be possible. Or we may have a short amount of time to shoot the photos where you are in the ocean.
If it is feasible, you may want to consider expanding your beach engagement photography budget to go beyond an hour. This way, we can accomplish more, and go to more than one location. But rest assured that we will always do as much as we can within the time available. If we have an hour to work with, we will still produce amazing beach engagement photos for you!
Preparing For Your San Diego Engagement Photo Shoot
There are many things you can do to ensure you are prepared for your beach engagement shoot. For starters, talk about the details of the photo shoot together, as a couple. This will help to solidify any any priorities you each have for the session. For example, one person may want images that are more fun and carefree. And the other person may envision photos that are more romantic and dramatic.
By talking it over together, you will get a better sense of shared goals. This way, you will know which specific questions to ask your San Diego engagement photographers. Otherwise, when you meet up with your photographer on the day of the shoot, you may find out that you don't totally align as a couple. Best to work this out beforehand!
Also, we suggest making a date of it and enjoy the time following your beach engagement shoot. For example, go out to dinner together at one of many famous San Diego beach restaurants. It will help you to be relaxed and comfortable at your session, knowing you have something to look forward to afterwards. One tip is to not make time sensitive reservations, or if you do, to push them far out. The last thing you want is to feel rushed during your beach photo session, and have to race over to another plan. Give yourselves enough time in-between.
